The drive down the keys from Fiesta Key was without any glitches and more than enjoyable. Fiesta Key is at Mile Marker 70. We left there at 9:15 yesterday morning and pulled right into Key Haven, the neighborhood that Hillary and Walt have moved into at 10:25.
We were able to park the camper on the side of the main street going into Key Haven and disconnect the dinghy (my car.) And, with Walt's directions to Jim on Wednesday Night, we were able to see their street and Hillary's car right away. Jim simply backed the car into their driveway for ease in getting the armoire out of the car and into the house.
When we arrived, Walt was out back, working on the pool, which Hillary has said has been an ongoing project. It has been cleaned and Walt is trying to get a new filter and get the pool filled back up. Strangely, neighbors and friends have said there needs to be water in the pool or it will sink? and, then someone said the high tides from the channel could affect the intergrity of the pool in some fashion. I don't understand all I know about that and even if explained to me carefully, I probably still could not 'grasp' the concept.
Hillary and Walt have already painted all the rooms in the house and they did a remarkable job. The large pieces of furniture have been 'placed' and now, for all of you that have moved from house to house, you know, the arduous task of getting boxes unpacked has begun.
Jim and I will be leaving here shortly to offer what help we can with technical house issues, hopefully leaving Hillary the opportunity to continue some of the unpacking.
This is a great house, in a great neighborhood. Hillary said neighbors have been over with meals, cookies, atta-boys and welcomes which, of course, allows for a warm feeling in your heart (and, tummy as well!)
We did not see Gabby and Lily yesterday. They were both at School (Gabby at the Elementary School and Lily at the Co-op.) As we would not be staying long enough for Gabby to get out of school, it was decided the best move would be to get away before Lily got home. Fair to both girls in 'who saw us first!'
So, we headed back up the keys and to our new home for a while. Lazy Lakes RV is at MM 20.
As we haven't really stocked our pantry, we did at least take the car, before leaving Key West, to Dion's Chicken. Mighty good fried chicken and to be our evening meal.
Since we had already unhooked the car, Jim drove the camper up here to Lazy Lakes and I followed behind in the car. Worked out well, since we didn't have to do all of that disconnecting at the office here. There's not a lot of room for much traffic at the entrance, so we didn't have to feel hurried to get unhooked to get the camper in our site, which is Number 18.
We are just down the little street and across from the spot we were in last year. For a mind visual, we were directly across from the laundry/bath house last year. This year, we are on the same side of the street as the laundry/bath house and down one campsite.
A little cool snap came through last night. Some wind and rain. Jim even has the little electric space heater running this morning.
There is a small little flower bed on the side of our campsite that needs a little work. I spent a little time pulling weeds yesterday afternoon while Jim finished up some camper connects to the power, sewer, water, etc. I didn't pull all the weeks yet - telling Jim I had to pace myself, not to get all the work done, needing to save some of the work as there are windows of time here that you look for things to do.
We also haven't put out the canopy or our outside chairs. That is a job for Saturday Morning. Again, pacing ourselves with the projects! :)
I had mentioned to Hillary that most people here would most likely not remember us (in reply to Hillary's question, are you excited to see your friends?) We were pleasantly surprised. Donna, at the office, of course, had our names right in front of her, so she didn't have a problem with our names. She did give us a warm hug welcome. Then her husband, Marty, came in and warm greetings were exchanged. As we were getting back into the camper/car, Mike, who we met last year came by and greeted us.
Also we have "Chuck" who is one of the work campers, immediately to our left in his camper. We did get to speak to Chuck and felt a warm welcome from him. Donna and Marty are from Michigan, Mike from Missouri and Chuck from Michigan. As mentioned last year, lots and lots of folks from Michigan here.
Last night was a Mexican Pot Luck for the campers and as Jim and I do not have anything in our pantry, yet, we simply stayed in and ate our chicken.
As I am 'keeping this blog honest' I will say that Jim has not been feeling up to par. This started yesterday morning. I suggested to him to just stay here today and rest up. He said he was feeling some better this morning and if he got to feeling too bad he would just sit down....believe you me, he will be monitored closely today.
I have the bed made, still have breakfast dishes to wash before we head out to the Lee's, so, I'll be back as soon as I can.
Thanks for staying with us (and, a special thanks to Bob and Joyce for watching out at Harbor Road)
