We touched base with Hillary this morning. They were on their way to church. As they were going to be a 'family' today around the house working, we opted to stay here at the campground and maybe do a few things around here.
I did do some laundry and I did work on the Sunday Crossword.
The flower bed, on the right side of the camper still had some weeds to be pulled so I continued with that project - all the while working around the sandspur weeds that had taken over the bed. You can't 'grab' those things just any where, you need to work your hand down to the base of the weed to pull out. And, even at that, I grabbed a handful of spurs with "ouch, ouch, ouch" mumbled under my breathe.
Jim is on top of the camper as I type here. This morning he found the floor damp at one end of the sofa so he has been siliconing everything in sight. This is the second day he has been up there. I think he likes the view.
Yesterday we did get to visit with Gabby and Lily while Walt went up the keys to show a house. We did have a grand time. Lots of adventures around the lake, lots of 'upside down jellyfish' - occasionally, the girls seemed to think a jellyfish needed to be rescued as it was surrounded by the moss and grass in the lake. So, a stick was the tool and Gabby ever so gently moved the grass and moss around so the jellyfish could escape! :)
When we returned to the rv after the walkabout we got us a piece of chicken to have a picnic on the picnic table outside. This can be an interesting experience. While eating, Lily started a leaf collage. She went into the camper, came out and wanted to know where the glue stick was....."Amme, how can we make a collage without a glue stick?" Then, she came out with the box of kleenex for the collage, then a flower they had picked and put into a cup inside the camper, then, on to even bigger and better ideas. A blanket and pillows were brought out for a campout on the carpet we have down for our outside sitting area. Pillows down, blanket up to Lily's chin, now "amme, sing to me." Lots of different things going on at one time.
We decided we needed to rake our campsite so we walked over to the campground tool shed to borrow a rake. Much raking of leaves (the collage forgotten), stuffing them into a bucket, then, of course, a tree to climb. About this time Jim gets back from the grocery store, both girls run to him for hugs and to help him carry in the groceries. Gabby helped put the groceries away. As I said, lots going on, grand ideas from the girls flying left and right, and pretty hard to keep up.
Gabby and I took the bucket of leaves and debris to the dumpster, along the way returning the rake. Lil opted to stay with Dad'n Dad'n.
Walking back to the camper, Gabby spies the pontoon floating on the lake by the little dock. We must go on the pontoon, look for more stuff in the water, and then all down the walkway to the tiki hut at the end of the lane. Many, many treasures were found - a metal washer, a piece of rubber covered wire (good for a gecko leash), a plastic pull tab, some tiny little cacti, a wooden stick shaped like a cane - the right size for Presly (Huntley and Preston's dog) but too small for Crystal (Gabby and Lily's cat), some of the palm frond woven roofing from the top of the tiki hut, a tiny little coconut, really more treasures than I can grasp, and all, oh, so wonderful. We were discussing the way Gabby was going to separate the treasures, I could be the judge of the categories, best, good and no-good, when we saw Vickie walking up the street toward us.
Seems Vickie and Bill had arrived while Gabby and I were on this latest adventure. I was delighted to see them both and Jim and I enjoyed visiting with them in the outside sitting area until it seemed to get a little cool. We all came into the camper and watched Gabby and Lily doing what it is that little girls do.....
Gabby was pretty occupied with her latchhook kit and Lily enjoyed going back outside to bring things back in, i.e., the flower and kleenex, etc.
Seems everyone left at once. Walt arrived to pick up the girls and Bill and Vickie decided it was time to get to the airport in Key West to pick up Cierra.
So, cocktails for Jim and I, a trip to the bathhouse for showers and we were in for the night.
Our temp for the last two days have been in the low 70's maybe. In any event, great weather for sitting outside, walking around and occasionally visiting with fellow campers.
While doing laundry this morning, I had the opportunity to talk with Terry, of Floyd and Terry, from last year. They have just completed a home in New Mexico and were a little late getting here this year. They arrived the week before Christmas and were planning to be here in October.
Floyd and Terry are among the several folks that get to Lazy Lakes in October and stay until May. Although, most of these October/May individuals are 'work campers', Terry and Floyd are not.
Seems the economic situation has caught up with Lazy Lakes. Last year, Sundays were free beer and hotdogs and a band, or individual singing. This year, there is a covered dish (campers bring the food) and the band and individual plays. Last year the time was 1 to 4, now, we understand the time is 4 to 8. Jim and I would never last for that....We may walk up there simply to get 'out amongst them.' We haven't prepared anything for a covered dish, so, we would not be eating.
Back to the economics, so far, we have been told, the ice cream social on Thursday Nights has been discontinued. There is a covered dish dinner. This year on Thursday Nights, last year it was on Tuesday. This Thursday Night there is to be a chili bean cookoff. You can enter your chili beans in the cookoff, or you can be a judge and bring a dessert or whatever side you want. Jim told Carolyn, who came by our campsite with the chili bean cookoff news, that we would not be entering!!! :) Although, Jim does some pretty good chili beans, I must say.
Well, I've been here an hour, believe it or not.
Let's see what the remainder of the day will bring -
A Blessed Life for Us All - karen
Saturday Morning, January 8, Jim's walk on top of the camper, resulting in the removal of palm fronds that are brushing the top of the camper.
An example of a free jellyfish, thanks to the rescue by Gabby.
Gabby, the rescuer of jellyfish, hard at work.
Gabby on her tree climbing adventure. Lily took this picture.
And, HERE, should be a picture of Lily with her pillows and blanket laying on the outside carpet. Regretfully, things were happening too fast, and I missed this more than wonderful photo op.
Our visit with Bill and Vickie. You can only see the tip of Gabby's head as she sits on the floor working on her latchhook.
Gabby working on her latchhook and Lily thinkiing of the next thing to do.
Cute decorated bike with live plants at a campsite to the left rear of our campsite.
I only wish the picture did this campsite justice. This is Marty and Donna's campsite. They are here from October until May, then they return to Michigan for a few months before coming back to Lazy Lakes. I have mentioned already that Donna works in the office here. The flower bed of Petunias was Donna's Christmas Present (along with the dirt says Marty.) They have flowering plants hanging from their privacy wall and lots of tin art. This campsite is designated as Donna and Marty's site and is very much their home for 8 months. On the opposite side of the wall is the bathhouse and Marty says everyone was always looking over at them so, they made the wall higher.
Evidently, the heighth of the wall became a joke with Marty's friends. One of his buddies made this "Wilson" (think Tim the Toolman's neighbor) creating eyes and the head from a paperbag. So, Marty forever has Wilson peeking over at him. When Marty told his friend, "well, the first rain will take care of that paperbag" his friend came back and sprayed the bag with clear spray paint - thereby extending Wilson's life.
wow lily is a good pictue taker:)
